The Sony service - PlayStation Plus - is this month celebrating its 5th Anniversary.
Having launched on the 29th of June in 2010, Sony have announced various activities planned over the period of June and July,
along with some new incentives for the PlayStation Plus Community.
Unbeknownst to many, PlayStation host regular monthly challenges and competitions for their PS Plus subscriber base via the
PlayStation Community Forums. And this month is no different, with Sony offering a ‘5 Year PS Plus Subscription’ as the prize
- for the challenge of collecting various custom trophies within June’s Instant Game Collection titles.
This and many others challenges will be running all month long.
But that’s not all, this month PlayStation also revealed their ‘Hall Of Fame’ and ‘PS Plus Leaderboard’.
The former recognising all the champions of the aforementioned challenges. On the Hall Of Fame each challenge is listed beside the month,
along with a shiny gold trophy icon next to the player who attains said greatness.
But it's the latter though, that is the more interesting addition.
Any players who compete in the challenges or competitions automatically gain points, the amount of points you gain
depends on how well you do in a specific challenge, but every participant at least gains a point - once they gain
enough they become entitled to a prize.
It’s obvious that Sony are trying to incentivise more players into joining their PlayStation Plus program, and even giving reasons to
those already subscribed to further benefit from playing titles across the Instant Game Collection spectrum each month.
With all of these announcements and the perfect timing coinciding with E3 it seems likely we’ll hear even more at Sony’s
conference next week.
